Missal implementation in Ireland

On last Friday, November 20, the National Secretariat for Liturgy in Ireland received the finalized text of the Order of Mass from ICEL โ€“ in both British and American spelling.ย No indication is given as to when the final version of the other texts will arrive.

In fact, the President of the Irish Bishopsโ€™ Conference, Cardinal Sean Brady, had received the final text of the Missal in electronic format on August 20, 2010, with a decree date June 18, 2010. It has been hoped that it would be possible to issue the missal in September 2011, with implementation perhaps Advent 2011. However, as editing still continues on the final text, this time frame might have to be adjusted if the final version is not made available soon.

Ireland already has its national proper texts approved. The English version was approved by the Congregation for Divine Worship on July 10, 2007, and it was published in 2009.ย Approval of the propers in the Irish language is still awaited. (Fr. Michael Joncas reported on these propers at Pray Tell here.)

Pray Tell thanks Fr. Patrick Jones at the National Centre for Liturgy for this report.
