Land Ho!

Looks like the Catholic Church will be prohibiting weddings on cruise ships. Oh well, I wasn’t planning on getting married anyway. But if I were, at least I wouldn’t have to worry any more about picking up the cruise costs for all the members of a Gregorian chant schola.

  1. Hmmm… has this ever really been allowed, or is it just “done” because it is assumed to be OK? There are already in place restrictions on marriages taking place in other non-church locations (beaches – Disney Chapel – etc…), so why would a cruise ship be an exception?

What? I need an indult from my bishop to get married on a ship? I’ll have to ask my abbot about that.
Oh wait, never mind – I think you mean for me to *officiate* at such wedding. ๐Ÿ™‚

I may be wrong, but my understanding is that a universal jurisdiction applied while at sea and outside the boundaries of a diocese.
