GOSPEL COMMUNION: 29th Sunday in Ordinary Time

October 17 2021 : 29th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Today’s antiphon is taken directly from the longer form of the Gospel reading, Mark 10:35-46:

“Whoever wishes to be great among you will be your servant” (Mark 10:43)

“The cup that I drink, you will drink, and with the baptism with which I am baptized, you will be baptized” (Mark 10:39)

“The Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many” (Mark 10:46)

We are reminded that receiving the Lord’s body and blood in Communion is a powerful sign to us of the self-sacrificial love we are to show to others through the way that we serve them.

Verses are taken from Revelation 4 and Psalm 40, following suggestions in the 1998 ICEL Antiphonary.
