January 10, 2021: Feast of the Baptism of the Lord (Year B)
Today’s antiphon connects directly with the Gospel and derives not from the Missal antiphon but from the antiphon in the Graduale Romanum, which runs:
All of you who have been baptized in Christ
have put on Christ, alleluia. (Galatians 3:27)
The Graduale pairs this with extracts from Psalm 29, but the Collegeville Composers preferred to use the extracts from Ephesians 1 (heard on the sample recording) and 1 Timothy 3:16 specified for use with the Missal antiphon, prefacing them with Titus 3:4-7, with its references to the waters of rebirth and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.
The antiphon is also used as an acclamation at the Easter Vigil, after the baptism of each candidate and/or immediately after the clothing with a white garment. It may also be used for the same purposes at baptisms throughout the year.
Listen to an extract from one of the two recordings of this antiphon found on the CD Where Two or Three Are Gathered here.
