10 years of full communion between Anglicans and Lutherans

Here’s good news on the ecumenical front. Canadian and U.S. Lutherans and Anglicans/Episcopalians are celebrating 10 years of full communion. For a decade now these churches have judged that agreement in baptismal and creedal faith is deep enough to allow for mutual recognition and ministries and full sharing of eucharistic worship.

From Episcopal News Service: “Episcopalians, Lutherans cross border to celebrate full communion.”

Back in 2001 the US Lutherans and Episcopalians celebrated a liturgy of full communion.

  1. I attended the service in Buffalo which was a great celebration. ELCA Bishop Mark Hanson presided and Anglican Church in Canada Archbishop Fred Hiltz preached.
The congregation was small, however, as local Episcopalians were seating their new bishop at his cathedral at the same time.
But the message from Bishop Hiltz and the spirit of the Eucharistic Liturgy were great to see and to experience.
