Rita Ferrone is an award-winning writer and frequent speaker on issues of liturgy and church renewal in the Roman Catholic tradition. She is currently a contributing writer and columnist for Commonweal magazine and an independent scholar. She is the former editor of The Yale ISM Review, an ecumenical journal of worship and the arts for the Yale Institute of Sacred Music.  

Election Day

Today, around the world, dioceses are celebrating the Rite of Election, the second “step” of catechumens in their journey toward the Easter sacraments. In this rite, which closes the period of the catechumenate proper, the Church hears testimony as to the catechumens’ readiness, and confirms that they are fit to take part in the next great celebration of the sacraments, at Easter.
