October 27, 2019: 30th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Today’s antiphon combines the striking image of prayer piercing the clouds from Sirach 35:21 in the 1st Reading with the cry of the tax collector — “O God, be merciful to me, a sinner” — from Luke 18:13 in the Gospel. The love God shows us indeed fulfills the prayer of our hearts.
The psalm verses provided, extracted from Psalms 141 and 143, continue the theme of those who lift up their eyes to the Lord and call upon him.
The antiphon may be sung as a round in two or four parts, as indicated. The four-part round, in particular, will convey something of our prayer to the Lord swirling up through the clouds.
