INTROITUS: St. Bartholomew

Mihi autem nimis honorati sunt amici tui, Deus: nimis confortatus est principatus eorum.

“Very honorable are your friends for me, God, very much strengthened is their predominance.” (Ps 139(138):17)

Sung by Liborius Lumma, Innsbruck (Austria).

Apart from rather legendary traditions, the Church does not know much about each of the twelve apostles. So it is no surprise that several chants were selected as “signatures” for apostles’ feast days, as long as there was no reason to select special chants for single apostles about whom we know more details (such as Peter and Paul).

That is why Mihi autem is repeated some weeks after we sang it on St. Thomas’ day and on St. James’ day, so I invite you to have a look at those parts of the INTROITUS series again.
