INTROITUS: 20th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Protector noster aspice, Deus, et respice in faciem Christi tui: quia melior est dies una in atriis tuis super milia.

“Our protector, watch, God, and look at the face of your anointed (your Christ): for one single day in your courts is better than thousand (elsewhere).” (Ps 84(83):10–11)

The great author Herman Wouk (1915–2019) – from whose book “This is my God” I learned the most about Jewish life and faith – lets a character in “The Winds of War” say: “Some hours weigh against a whole lifetime.”

This is what we could keep in mind when we sing or hear the words dies una (“one single day”) in this introit.
