Congratulations to the winners of last week’s drawing! Martha H., Joe L., Kevin S., Regina P., and Neil L. will each be receiving a copy of The Eucharistic Liturgies.
Last week’s drawing was so successful, we’re doing it again this week! We’re giving away five copies of another great book that will interest many Pray Tell readers: Eschatology, Liturgy, and Christology: Toward Recovering an Eschatological Imagination, by Thomas P. Rausch, SJ, and published by Liturgical Press.
Too often, Rausch argues, we reduce eschatology to “the four last things”: death, judgment, heaven, hell. To be sure, these are important topics, but our understanding of them can be impoverished by an individualistic approach to faith.
Rausch insists that Christian tradition sees these last things as radically social realities. Our eschatological fulfillment can only be realized in relation to others and indeed to all creation. Just as my life and personality is shaped and conditioned by my relationships with others, so is my very destiny. We go to God together. Understanding this profoundly impacts what we mean by Christology and eschatology, and it’s expressed powerfully (or should be) by liturgy.
Enter to win a copy of the book by filling out the form below. Entries must be submitted by 4 PM CST Friday, May 11, 2012. Winners will be announced on Pray Tell.
