Holy Week Is for Children

What the church does together in its liturgical assembly during Holy Week is almost by definition much more accessible to children than what the church does on, say, the umpteenth Sunday in ordinary time. What the church does during Holy Week, when one boils it down, is simple. In our words and our actions, our songs and our prayers, we tell the story of Jesus’ death and resurrection.

What Color is Your Lent?

The idea was, of course, Scriptural: sackcloth and ashes, the vesture of penance. The effect was a fading out of the ornate, a blending in with the surrounding stone or plasterwork. The Lenten White did not contrast as would violet; rather it simplified, made plain and austere, vesting the season in the color (or lack thereof) of its virtue.
The U.S. Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter – for Anglicans/Episcopalians coming into full unity with the Roman Catholic Church – has published its liturgical calendar.
