  1. Did you know him, Katie?
I never met him, but I remember he was big into education. I had written some guidelines for catechesis for the Archdiocese of New York, many years ago, and they were widely shared. I remember he wrote a note praising them (not me personally, but the education department under which I was working at the time), and my colleagues showed it to me. Of course that was a nice gesture on his part.
    May he rest in peace.

  2. I received the sacrament of confirmation from him! I did not know him personally, but his figure loomed large in my consciousness as a Catholic gradeschooler. Archbishop Buechlein was very supportive of Catholic education–he also spearheaded the establishment of the Bishop Simon Brute College Seminary in Indianapolis.

  3. Anyone know how my comment got removed. I was the first to post following news of his death. He was my rector at St. Meinrad and a truly good man and servant of the lord. I remember well his Mass of ordination and installation in Memphis and visiting his house with some other priest friends for a light collation the day afterwards. May he rest in peace.
