Organist from Rome apointed to Salt Lake City Cathedral

The Cathedral of the Madeleine and The Madeleine Choir School announce the appointment of Dr. Gabriele Terrone as the Organist and Assistant Director of Music effective April 1, 2014.

Gabriele Terrone has served as the Titular Organist at the Papal Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore (St. Mary Major) in Rome Since November of 2011, with previous posts at the Basilicas of San Lorenzo, Santi Cosma e Damiano, and Santa Croce in Gerusalemme, all in Rome. Dr. Terrone has studied at the State Music Conservatory in Perugia, the Pontifical Institute of Sacred Music in Rome.

Terrone holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Padova and recently completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Universidade Técnica de Lisboa in Lisbon.

Terrone joins the other members of the music staff at the Cathedral and the Choir School where he will perform as Principal Organist for Cathedral liturgies, oversee the Eccles Organ Festival, assist with the training and preparation of the choristers and serve on the faculty of the Choir School.

  1. Dr. Terrone will doubtless be grateful for the Madeleine’s amazing Choir School and choral ensembles of the boys and girls enrolled there. And Msgr. Mannion’s foresight must not be forgotten in that reality.

  2. Someone with a doctorate in mathematics and a postdoctoral fellowship in that same discipline with “studies” at the State Music Conservatory in Perugia, the Pontifical Institute of Sacred Music in Rome has been making a lot of music in Rome before coming to Salt Lake City!
